Surplus variable abilities may be used as joker for levels at which their are available or start to be available.

Tasks
- Supports other player characters in their endeavors. For example he might grant a bonus to target a particular enemy or perform a certain activity - if the player performs this activity, he gains the bonus. (Similar to the 4E Leader role.)
- Coordinating with other starships (granting them bonuses instead of this ship)
- Granting players additional actions or negating enemy actions.
- Coordinating NPC crew (organizing sick bay?)
Abilities
Supporting Action
Level: Variable (starting at low levels)
Effect: The commander supports another character in his action thereby granting him a variable bonus to his primary die roll for the supported action.
Difficulty/Frequency: Easy/Often
Battle Overview
Level: Low
Effect: The commander analyses the situation. Each turn until the end of the combat he can pick one ally to gain a low bonus to his skill check or attack roll.
Difficulty/Frequency: Hard/Seldom
Coordinated Attack
Level: Medium
Effect: The commander designates a target in combat. Every other character that uses his actions to support attacking the target gains a medium bonus to his primary die roll (e.g. evading the target's shots, gaining a good attack position, shooting at the target, boosting the shields or the speed for the attack).
Difficulty/Frequency: Easy/Often
Designated Target
Level: Low
Effect: The commander picks one target in combat for his attacks. Every attack and damage roll against that target gains a medium bonus to attacks.
Difficulty/Frequency: Hard / Seldom
