Tasks
- Improve ship resources. Weapons deal more damage, shields hold more damage, the ship moves faster. Might also have to balance available resources - more energy to shields, weapons, engines etc.
- Performs repairs - regenerating shields, repairing damage or disabled subsystems.
- Improvising ship resources
Abilities
Engine Overload
Level: Variable (starting at low levels)
Effect: The engineer reconfigures the engines to fuse them with extra power. For one turn the speed is increased by a variable (low on low levels, high on high levels) amount.
Difficulty/Frequency: Moderate/Sometimes (or Easy/often for a low increase)
Shield Boost
Level: Variable (starting at low levels)
Effect: The engineer directs extra power to the shields of the ship, thereby increasing it's defense abilities. The shield bonus increases by a variable amount. This depends on the type of bonus the shields provide. If they provide multiple numerical bonuses, only one is increased at the engineers choice.
Difficulty/Frequency: Moderate/Sometimes (or Easy/often for a low increase)
Repairs
Level: Low
Effect: The engineers repairs damage of the ship. He can repair either the hull or shields (if both or either of them has something equivalent to hitpoints). Their hitpoints (or equivalent) increases by a variable amount. This ability is additional to the basic ability of repairing.
Difficulty/Frequency: Moderate/Sometime
Weapons Overload
Level: Variable (starting at medium levels)
Effect: The engineer directs extra power to the weapons, thereby increasing the damage of a single weapon system by a variable amount.
Difficulty/Frequency: Moderate/Sometimes
Repair Subsystem
Level: Medium
Effect: The engineer repairs a single subsystem that is not working. On high levels he can repair two with one use of this ability. This ability can not be used to restore hull or shields if they have hitpoints or an equivalent. This ability is only applicable if the system allows subsystems to be damaged.
Difficulty/Frequency: Difficult/Rare
Boost Sensors
Level: Variable (starting at low levels)
Effect: The engineer directs extra energy to the sensors, thereby granting the gunner a variable bonus to sensor-related roles for one turn.
Difficulty/Frequency: Moderate/Sometimes
Rapid Fire Modification
Level: High
Effect: The engineer modifies the firing rate of the ship, allowing it to make an extra basic attack against a target using the affected weapon system.
Difficulty/Frequency: Moderate/Sometimes
Modulate Shield System
Level: Medium
Effect: The Engineer modifies the shield system to adapt to a specific weapon type used by the enemy. The provide a moderate defense bonus against that weapon type, but provides no bonuses to others.
Difficulty/Frequency: Moderate/Sometimes
Modulate Energy Weapon (Hull, Armor or Shields)
Level: High
Effect: The engineer modifies an energy weapon to better penetrate shields. Either provides a small damage bonus against hull (representing better penetration) or a moderate damage bonus against armor or shields (representing better effectiveness against the defensive mechanism employed).
